Saturday, February 11 1:00-2:30 pm--"Let's Work Out to Knock Out" teen dating violence. Teens can learn to kick box and learn about good relationships. Service Saturday, February 18 12-3 pm--Sew blankets for Weighted Comfort Social Tuesday, February 21 at 7 pm--Wine tasting at Montage Finding Comfort in the Dead of WinterOur winter meeting was all about comfort. We had two speakers: Weighted Comfort and Guardian Angel Home. Weighted Comfort is a nonprofit organization from Dwight that sews blankets for autistic children. The theory behind the blankets is that people who cannot filter their sensory perception can get relief from the blankets, which activate their deep nervous system.
Our second speaker was the Guardian Angel Home, which discussed the myths of teen dating violence. As much as people would like to believe that there is no teen dating violence, that just is not true. Teens start relationships as early as fifth grade and need to learn good relationship skills that will help to carry them into adulthood. Meeting held at Morris Community High School Home Foods Room September was Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
Our Ovarian Cancer Awareness Event was held on Monday, September 12. Cori Trotter came to speak with members and guests about the disease, its symptoms, the impact it had on her life, and her campaign efforts. Participants walked away with a greater appreciation of this silent and deadly killer. Ann Polson won the door prize of a glass ornament displaying the ovarian cancer logo.
Due to the efforts of Ms. Trotter, Morris and multiple other towns are Ovarian Cancer Awareness communities. So tie a teal ribbon around your tree and help spread the news! Wine and Pine |
MWC members and guests were able to make signs at a new establishment in Morris's quaint downtown called Wine and Pine. The event was sponsored by Nicole Russell the Thrivent Financial representative in Morris (and MWC member). A big shout out to Thrivent for their commitment to community development and for providing this opportunity to MWC members and guests
